about hagetisse Emma, wise woman

About Emma

Let’s start with the basics: my name is Emma, I’m a hagetisse, and I’ve been walking the earth since the early seventies of the 20th century. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but lived a lot of my years in English-speaking countries. I do not live in the Netherlands now. It will always be home, so I still go there regularly. However, its crowdedness, noise and light pollution made it too hard for me to be there permanently.

I live in a place where one can still feel puny and in awe with nature, Ireland. I’m a wanderer by nature. Although I like to have a base to call home, I don’t like being stuck in the same place all the time.

An inextricable part of the earth

I’ve been fascinated with the earth around me ever since I can remember. I use the word ‘earth’ on purpose; I didn’t mean ‘world’. The world is literally the whole of human created society, whereas the earth is the whole planet and every creature on it. From an early age, I learned that there was more to this living and breathing being that we call our planet than most people around me seemed to realise. I saw more life existing around me than most people did. I also saw that we are an inextricable part of this living and breathing whole, and felt that moving away from it, as we’re doing in our society, is harming us.

My most important task is to inform people who want to regain confidence in themselves, in their mind, their heart and their body. Help them see the stories, taught through upbringing and cultural frameworks, for what they are and to recognise the voice of their own intuition again en find the strength to follow it.

Life is full of magic

We all know examples of that one elusive element in life that seems to be the key to everything. That factor you cannot comprehend, but challenges and changes everything we know. Some people call it coincidence. As if coincidence exists… Some call it quantum physics, others see it as miraculous divinity. Then there are those who call it witchcraft, magic, or sorcery. Whatever you want to call it, it is a force that very much exists. I knew and felt it when I was a little girl, walking along those wooded areas along the river we lived near to, and I know and feel it now.

Magic is not something I use occasionally, that I switch on and off. It is infused into every inch of my life and being, so in my wise woman’s practice as well. It was the key to success in my consultation room when I still offered personal consultations. That deep connectedness that magical insight provides gives me exactly those tools that enable me to get to the heart of a problem. I admit, I hesitated in using the word magic on this site. But it is too important not too, and I even dedicated an article to it.

Gaining the ultimate knowledge by inclination, talent, study, and a lot of hard work

How I came to be what I am? Foremost, by being open and staying open – although that last bit has admittedly been a struggle at times, growing up in this society. But becoming a wise woman, was my wyrd, my fate. There was no stopping it. Not that I’d have wanted to… From an early age, I gobbled up anything to do with the earth and healing—in the broadest sense of the word—that I could get my hands on. I was presented with the right sources and people and gratefully soaked up any wisdom I was offered.

I studied herbalism, botany, the workings of nature in all her facets, permaculture. After I finished my basic medical training, I dived into all sorts of natural medicine, like orthomolecular medicine, cPNI, MBSR, Healing with the Arts for which I was a mentor for a while, and several existentialist psychotherapeutical methods. But I also devoured other, not the most obvious, but very much related, types of knowledge. Like how we humans communicate and learn. I studied philosophy, archaeology, history, folklore, my own roots. I’m a licensed teacher, specialised in multiple intelligence theory, as well.

The most important facet, however, was the aforementioned being and remaining open. My gut / intuition / whatever you want to call it—my access to wisdom beyond myself and my lifespan—was the cement that made all the bricks into a solid structure.

Bringing old and new wisdom into people’s lives

I myself am living proof of the effectiveness of my method. Once—it seems like another lifetime now—I was labelled chronically ill and was told that I had to learn to live with not being able to enjoy life like a ‘normal’ person would. Due to the conditioning that I underwent in the society we live in, I was convinced that I couldn’t follow my heart and do what I really wanted. I had to dismantle all the stories I had come to see as the truth. I learned to trust myself again, completely. And here I am, healthy and happy, not been using any medication for more than a decade, able to navigate life easily and living my true destiny.

I wish that for everyone. It was reason for me to start this website and write relevant books, to make ancient wisdom more easily available. In this way, I can reach more people than I could ever assist one on one during my consultations.
